Sarojini Naidu was an Indian independence activist, poet and politician. A renowned orator and accomplished poet, she is often known by the moniker ‘The Nightingale of India’. As a prodigious child, Naidu wrote the play “Maher Muneer”, which earned her a scholarship to study abroad. She became the second woman president of the Indian National Congress. She was the first woman Governor of an Indian state after independence. Her collection of poems earned her literary acclaim. In 1905, she published her first book, a collection of poems, under the title of “Golden Threshold”. Sheikh Hasina is the most powerful women and the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She is known as the ‘Mother of Humanity’ across the world. She is the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of Bengali Nation. Sheikh Hasina is the president of ruling political party, Awami League since 1981 and positioned the party well to fight against other any party in Bangladesh. Now, her party Awami League is on power for third terms with her astute political leadership.

Political Career:

Sheikh Hasina began her politicaljourney with the student politics; she was elected Vice President of the Students Union of Government Intermediate Girl’s College. She was a member of the students League Unit of Dhaka University and Secretary of the students League Unit of Rokeya Hall. Sheikh Hasina was elected as the chief of the Student’s Union of Eden Girls College. She actively participated in all the mass movements from her student life.

Sheikh Hasina went to the United Kingdom, from where she on track her movement against the autocratic rule in 1980. Sheikh Hasina ending six years in exile returned home finally on 17 May 1981 and the day is celebrated as Homecoming Day of Sheikh Hasina. Her party took part in the parliamentary election held in 1986 under autocratic ruler and she won three seats.

In 1990, Hasina made an anti-Ershad movement with her party and forced Ershad to step down from power. Hasina announced the constitutional formula for peaceful transfer of power through Articles 51 and 56 of the Constitution in 1990. Following the election of 1991 Sheikh Hasina became Leader of the Opposition in the country’s Fifth Parliament, she steered all the political parties in the parliament towards changing the Presidential system into the Parliamentary one.

Sheikh Hasina created awareness among the people for the need of Non-party Caretaker Government to ensure free and fair polls. Her mass movement was bound to Khaleda Zia’s BNP to launch Non-party Caretaker Government in 1996. Her party Bangladesh Awami League won the national election in 1996 for the first time and she became Prime Minister. In the election of 2001, her party wipes out from competition for the president of that was time. Then she positioned her party such place with astute leadership power, thereby the party got an outright majority in the two national elections of 2008 and 2014.

In 1966, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared six-point plan at a national conference of opposition political parties at Lahore, which conveyed independence of Bangladesh through 1971 Liberation War.

1- Pakistan would have a federal structure of government based on the sense of the Lahore Resolution of 1940, with a parliament elected on the foundation of universal adult franchise;

2- The federal government would have authority only in defense and foreign affairs and all other subjects would be operated by the federating units of the state of Pakistan;

3- There would be two freely exchangeable currencies for the two wings of Pakistan or two separate reserve banks for the two regions of the state;

4- The power of taxation and revenue collection would be vested in the federating units and the federal center will have no such authority. The Federation will be entitled to a share in the state taxes to meet its expenses;

5- There would be two separate accounts for overseas exchange reserves for the two wings;

6- East Pakistan would have a separate militia or paramilitary force.
